Valentine’s day.
…I know that many of my followers may have heard me in school talking about how excited I am for tomorrow, which is my second favorite holiday (next to Easter). Let me tell you why:
Little is known of Saint Valentine, and his legend may be just that; religious fiction. But the man who in lore is called Valentine was a rogue priest who allegedly married couples in a time of religious persecution in the Roman Empire when soldiers were not allowed to be wed.
What a Bad-Ass Catholic.
Now, for why it is so important to me. Yes, tomorrow is in part a day of chocolates, kisses, flowers and music from the 1990’s. But that is made possible by people like Valentine who, in the words of Akon, fought, “for the right to love.”
Tomorrow is important to me because Valentine’s day is the historical celebration of human love in motion, changing form but not substance. It is the heritage of the human community. Tomorrow, go out and tell someone you love them. I know it’s corny but it makes the world a better place!
Happy Valentine’s day!
With love, -Matt Hank Smith
